Whats the best and worst brands of filters and heaters for fish tanks/ aquariums

I like interpet as well.
Dont like Whisper. They definitly do NOT whisper.

Best filter: Fluval
Worst filter: Stingrays (I had one and the design is so bad my fish got stuck behind it!)

Best heater:I'd actually say Visi-Tech because the dial is stiffer so you o not knock it as easily

Worst heater: Probabbly Fluval cos you can knock the dial really easily, and it can turn up without you knowing.

Turtles r extremely messy so whatever filter u get go with a bigger size than is recommended for ur tank. I've used Aquaclears in my tanks for years & had few problems. Most places sell replacement parts for them too so if u need a new motor or more tubing it is not hard to get.

I'd get 2 heaters for a tank that size & put one at each end. If u only put one in ur tank temperature will be uneven & if it is cool at all it will be on constantly. I have different types of heaters & I have not really noticed much difference in them. Just do not go by the heat settings on them. Get an old fashioned thermometer (not digital) & adjust the settings until u get the tank the temperature u want it. The heat settings on them r only measuring the temperature of the water right where the heater is sitting.

I second Visitherm heaters. These things are durable, reliable, attractive, the works. Last for years and years, adjustable, fully submersible. I've been using visitherm for 10 years and will never get another brand :D

For a tank that size..this would get my vote.
A buddy of mine takes care of offices with real fancy aquariums - & he puts these in all his tanks.

Ca not help u with a filter, I only keep tiny tanks myself.

The top advice is good. That way if a unit burms out, or malfunctions, u r not likely to freeze or cook ur turtle.

(I've heard a few people recommend the same thing)

i have TOP FIN. i've had it for a year and a half.

Visitherm Steath heater. Accurate, dependable, submersable, & most importantly with turtles unbreakable.

Turtles r messy, different filters do different things better. Power filters excell at mechanical filtration, when I was running power filters I ran Aqua Clears. I torture tested these filters in my breeding setup, extended intakes, packed them with floss for mechanical filtration, & never burnt them out.

For bio filtration, canister filters r the best thing short of a sump, & Eheim makes the best canisters. Many aquarists have these running for 20+ years, they r German engineering applied to aquatics. Eheim makes the pumps for the space shuttle, just to give u an idea of how highly regarded this company is.

Visitherm Stealth heater, Aqua clear & Eheim filter, & ur turtle tank will run better than u could ever imagine. This is the setup I use for freestanding tanks with messy fish, such as oscars & common plecs.
